Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown insists there will be no knee-jerk reaction to Tuesday night's 6-0 Coca-Cola Championship mauling at the hands of Cardiff. Some fans, angry and frustrated by their team's capitulation, are calling for manager Gary Johnson to go. But Lansdown has sought to steady the Ashton Gate ship and place the emphasis on remedying a difficult situation rather than apportioning blame. Although City's chairman shares the fans' hurt, he is refusing to cave in to demands for the manager to be sacked and is backing Johnson to put things right. Lansdown and Johnson spent nearly half an hour together in the manager's office at Ashton Gate after Tuesday's game, discussing how best to put City's season back on track.

City were booed off by large sections of Ashton Gate on Tuesday and Johnson and his players have come in for some strong criticism since then. Louis Carey insists pride will be the spur when Bristol City return to action at Middlesbrough tomorrow. Bristol City FC's players are still reeling from the shock of losing 6-0 at home to arch-rivals Cardiff in a painfully one-sided Severnside derby in midweek. Charged with the task of lifting his team-mates, long-serving club captain Carey says there is a burning desire within the camp to put things right at the Riverside tomorrow. "It's all about professional pride when you suffer a defeat like that," said Carey. "That game was definitely one of the worst experiences of my career and the lads were all devastated afterwards. There is no way you should ever lose like that at home."

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson could ring the changes for Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough after their humiliating defeat against Cardiff. The Robins were thrashed 6-0 at Ashton Gate by Dave Jones' ruthless Bluebirds on Tuesday night and Johnson's side have won just one of their last six Championship matches. Lewin Nyatanga could be recalled to the City defence, while midfielders Evander Sno, Marvin Elliott and Ivan Sproule are all pushing for recalls to the starting line-up.
