Bristol City supporters have been quick to pass judgement in the wake of Tuesday night's humiliating 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Cardiff. And given the team's shambolic display, it is hardly surprising that some fans, hurt by a defeat of such magnitude, are calling for City manager Gary Johnson to stand down. Human nature demands a scapegoat when things go wrong on such an alarming scale, and Johnson is an easy target for those intent upon venting their anger and frustration. Of course, the fans pay their money at the turnstiles and, as such, are entitled to an opinion, no matter how polemic. Losing at home to arch-rivals Cardiff is a difficult pill to swallow at the best of times, but Tuesday's abject capitulation represented an affront to Bristolian pride, hence calls for the manager's head to roll.

Bristol City fans are split on whether manager Gary Johnson should stay at the club or go. Tuesday's Coca-Cola Championship debacle against Cardiff - a 6-0 defeat at Ashton Gate - has provoked a furious response from some supporters who believe Johnson should be relieved of his duties. But others fear a change of manager midway through the season could prove counter-productive and insist Johnson should be allowed time in which to effect a recovery. Two internet websites, 'thisisbristol' and 'One Team in Bristol', have set up polls asking fans for their views on City's manager and they have been bombarded with hits. Opinion is clearly divided and on our website, thisisbristol.co.uk, last night 54 per cent had voted for Johnson to stay and 46 per cent for him to leave City.

Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown has called for the club's fans to stay united behind the team despite the hammering by Cardiff on Tuesday. City's home support predictably vented their anger during the drubbing at the hands of the Bluebirds in the Severnside derby. Lansdown admits the game was hard to stomach but has called for the players and fans to concentrate on making amends when they face Middlesbrough on Saturday. "I can't say anything that will appease the supporters. I can apologise, but I don't feel the need to do that," he said. "We all must stick together."

Bristol City are lining up a move for Watford defender Jon Harley. Watford are believed to be willing to offload Harley to reduce their wage bill and trim their squad. Bristol City boss Gary Johnson is understood to be in the market for a new left-back and Harley is on his list of targets.

Michael McIndoe admits that while he is giving his all for Coventry City, he knows he can play better. The left winger arrived from Bristol City in the summer with a reputation for creating and scoring goals, having help put the Sky Blues to the sword on three occasions over the last few seasons, but it hasn't really happened for him at the Ricoh Arena yet. "I wouldn't say I am delighted by any means with the way my season is going," said the 30-year-old in an honest appraisal of his form. "I know I have got a lot more to offer and it is very difficult to express it at the moment."
