Gary Johnson has reassured Bristol City fans he is doing everything within his power to strengthen his squad while the January transfer window remains open. But City's manager said there is no need for supporters to panic over a perceived lack of activity. With nearly half of January having elapsed, Bristol City are yet to announce a new signing. Yet Johnson, who is targeting a left-sided midfielder, insisted there is still time to land the right player and urged anxious fans to trust him. He warned: "Just because there are no new faces at this moment in time, does not mean things have not been happening behind the scenes."

Unpopular "bubble" restrictions have been relaxed for Bristol City's FA Cup third-round replay visit to Cardiff City next week. Fans will be able to travel independently to the match on Tuesday, January 19. However, fans must still purchase match vouchers in advance, which must be exchanged for tickets at Cardiff West Services (Junction 33, M4) between 6.15pm and 7pm on the day of the game. All coaches and minibuses that arrive at Cardiff West services will then be escorted to Cardiff City Stadium by South Wales Police. Fans travelling by car will travel to Cardiff independently once they have collected their tickets. Fans are advised against using the train, as they will still be required to get to Cardiff West Services between 6.15pm and 7pm - and Cardiff Central station is a 13-mile round trip.

Bristol City left-back Jamie McAllister has been let off the hook despite collecting his fifth booking of the season against Cardiff. Players who mount up five bookings are usually required to serve a one-match suspension, but Football Association rules this season state that only applies up until December 31, after which time players receive a warning as to their future conduct. That means McAllister will be available for the Robins' home clash against Preston on Saturday.

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson stood accused of tripping Bluebirds' goalscorer Michael Chopra at Ashton Gate and he said: "It might have been a trip - but I won't admit it!" Johnson and Chopra clashed after the Geordie striker ended his goal-drought - 12 games without scoring - by producing a magnificent curling strike against Bristol City. Chops turned and ran towards the Cardiff City dug-out, aiming to celebrate a 13th goal of the season, although he had to go through the home technical area where Johnson was standing. The incident saw Chopra go sprawling on the snow-covered Ashton gate surface - and he jumped up to confront Johnson. All parties were smiling after 1-1 FA Cup third round draw, though, and Johnson said: "I have apologised to Michael Chopra. He scored an outstanding goal and I respect him as a player. Chops scored his goal and was happy, but he needs to celebrate on the pitch and not our technical area - that's my ground. I saw Chopra running towards me being chased by all 10 of his team-mates. Something had to give and I didn't want it to be me. I stood my ground and the player went down. It might have been a trip, but I won't admit it."
