Angry Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has called upon the Football League to launch an enquiry into the events which led to the belated postponement of today's Coca-Cola Championship match against Crystal Palace in south London. The game was called off at 6.30pm last night - just four hours after Palace officials had given assurances that the Selhurst Park pitch was fit for play. City had already set off on their journey to the capital and the late decision left Johnson and his players fuming at the end of a day of frustration on the M4. "We asked everyone over and over again for an early decision," fumed Johnson, pictured. "We were originally leaving Ashton Gate at 1pm, but held off until 2pm and then 2.30pm when we got the call that the pitch was fine. Then at 4pm we received a call from Palace to say there was going to be a pitch inspection an hour later, so we pulled into the Marriott Hotel at Langley to await a decision. We were just left waiting there twiddling our thumbs."

Crystal Palace's game with Bristol City tomorrow has been postponed. Referee Kevin Wright visited Selhurst Park this afternoon and decided areas of the pitch were not playable. There was also concern over the predicted temperatures set to hit the area during the game.

Crystal Palace's Championship match with Bristol City at Selhurst Park on Saturday has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. The Eagles' staff had been working round the clock to ensure the match would go ahead, but like many up and down the country, it fell foul of the severe weather at a 6pm pitch inspection on Friday.

Bristol City have informed wantaway goalkeeper Adriano Basso they are prepared to rip up his contract and allow him to leave Ashton Gate for nothing if he can find another club. But they have imposed a deadline and warned the Brazilian the offer will be withdrawn unless he can secure a move by the end of this weekend. The Evening Post understands Basso's agent, John Halliwell, has told the transfer-listed keeper he has found a club willing to take him during the January window, providing he is available on a free transfer. Halliwell's decision to go public on Sky Sports on Thursday night has now prompted City to call his bluff. City officials maintain they have not received a single enquiry for Basso since he submitted a written transfer request in August last year.

Bristol City have installed industrial hot-air blowers on the Ashton Gate pitch in a bid to save Tuesday's FA Cup third round tie against Cardiff. Groundsman Craig Richardson and his staff laid protective covers on the playing surface several days ago and these have since been covered by snow. City press officer Adam Baker explained: "The heaters will be positioned beneath the covers and will thaw the playing surface, which is currently frozen." Although City remain confident the pitch will be playable, further snow is forecast in the Bristol area during the next few days and temperatures are not expected to rise much above zero.
