He admits confidence has been affected by a modest return of one win from 10 games and City's worrying habit of conceding goals and points late in games. But the Scot insists the more experienced players in the dressing room are doing all in their power to check the slide and effect a turnaround in fortunes. "There is a greater responsibility on you in these situations when you are a senior professional," admits the 31-year-old left-back, who has this week added his voice to those of fellow experienced campaigners Louis Carey, Paul Hartley and Bradley Orr. You have to take it on and not hide away from that responsibility."

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson says he will do everything within his power to protect his players from football's rumour mill during the next month. The January transfer window opened for business yesterday and Johnson is bracing himself for four weeks of speculation and intrigue. And he is determined not to allow stories in the media and gossip among supporters to deflect City's senior professionals from the task of mounting a sustained challenge for the Coca-Cola Championship play-offs. January is traditionally an unsettling time for players and managers alike as agents work overtime in pursuit of the best deal possible for their clients and themselves. "I don't like transfer windows at all," complained Johnson. "For the last month, we've been bombarded with calls from agents and representatives from players all over the world."

Lee Johnson has escaped the Bristol City boo-boys by joining Coca-Cola Championship rivals Derby County on loan. Bristol City's 28-year-old midfield playmaker will spend the next month with the Rams and was named in their squad for today's FA Cup third-round tie against League One Millwall at the New Den. The surprise switch will probably come as a relief to the former Yeovil Town and Hearts player, who has been the subject of criticism and abuse from a small section of City fans this season. Although Johnson has played a major part in the club's success since moving to Bristol in 2006, his position as the manager's son has caused him to be targeted by elements of the Ashton Gate crowd. City boss Gary Johnson preferred to explain his son's short-term transfer in football terms, insisting the midfield dynamo is in need of regular games after starting just 13 times for the Robins this season.

Young Wales defender Christian Ribeiro has admitted he's back believing again as he looks to seal his Bristol City return in FA Cup action today. Ribeiro is back with the Robins after spending the past two months on loan with League One strugglers Stockport County. It was his first taste of regular football after missing all of last season following a serious knee injury. And, despite a winless time at cash-strapped Stockport, Ribeiro insisted the experience helped him put fears over his recovery to bed. "I was out for such a long time, it's been a long, hard road back," said the 20-year-old centre-back, who ruptured his cruciate knee ligaments last August.
