Luck deserted Bristol City as they slipped to defeat in West London in this entertaining Boxing Day Championship fixture at Loftus Road. Having dominated the opening half hour, the visitors were undone by two goals in seven minutes as Rangers forged a commanding lead against the run of play. Jay Simpson seized upon weak defending to poach the opening goal on 33 minutes and Mikele Leigertwood smashed a second from 20 yards shortly before the break. City staged a second-half fightback and leading scorer Nicky Maynard gave them hope when firing his first goal in almost two months after 58 minutes.

QPR boss Paul Hart claimed expectations are too high at Loftus Road after his side were amazingly booed off following a 2-1 win over Bristol City. First-half goals from Jay Simpson and Mikele Leigertwood put Rangers in control, but they were hanging on at the end after Nicky Maynard's stunning strike brought City back into the game. Hart sacrificed attacking duo Simpson and Akos Buzsaky for defenders Gary Borrowdale and Matt Connolly late on, to jeers from some hard-to-please Rangers fans. But after registering his first victory in his second game in charge, he said: "We hadn't won in six games and lost the lead in our last two, and there was an edginess in our game against a very good Bristol City side.

Paul Hart is looking to turn Loftus Road into a fortress and after a week in the hotseat, he has his first win. But before creating a hostile atmosphere to visiting sides he must first win over his own fans who booed Rangers off the field at full-time. The victory against stuttering City was QPR's first in seven league games and the only win at home since the end of October. And with seemingly untold riches behind-the-scenes, patience seems to be wearing thin with the Rangers faithful who now expect nothing less than promotion. "I don't know the supporters, I try not to let things like that play a part or influence anything I do," said Hart.

Nicky Maynard hit a wonder goal and then had appeals for a late penalty brushed aside. Striker Maynard was clipped by defender Fitz Hall as he powered into the area after 79 minutes. But ref David Phillips waved aside frantic cries for a spot kick. City boss Gary Johnson said: "I always respect officials. My only gripe is that the referee gave the linesman a quizzical look. And the linesman looked back with the same expression. Neither wanted to make a decision and that disappointed me."
News of the World
Swansea City boss Paulo Sousa has confirmed he has made a decision over the future of Lee Trundle, but will wait before making an announcement. Trundle's loan from Bristol City expires after Monday's game against Crystal Palace and he is keen to stay at the Liberty Stadium. The striker has been informed of Sousa's intentions about a possible deal, but the Portuguese is playing a waiting game regarding a public declaration. "I've spoken already with Lee and I know what I'm going to do, but you (the press) will need to wait to see what is going to happen," said Sousa.
