Danny Haynes did everything but score against his former club as Ipswich left Ashton Gate with a point. Desperate to register a first Coca-Cola Championship win in five games, City were frustrated by well-drilled opponents who made a mockery of their position in the bottom three. But the home side certainly had chances to have taken all three points and Haynes was left to reflect on two second-half shots which came back off the post.

Ipswich Town stretched their unbeaten Championship run to eight matches when they gained a well deserved point against Bristol City at Ashton Gate. The Blues created several first half chances but failed to take them, and Danny Haynes struck both posts for the home team early in the second period. Grant Leadbitter hit the post near the end and substitute Pablo Counago missed a gilt-edged chance from the rebound.

Danny Haynes was twice denied by the woodwork against his former club as Bristol City were held to a 0-0 draw by Ipswich at Ashton Gate. Quality opportunities were at a premium before the break as neither side managed to make the most of a string of half chances. The Robins looked the more dangerous after the break only to be denied by the woodwork as Ipswich extended their unbeaten run to eight league games.

Ipswich boss Roy Keane was frustrated after watching Dean Gerken's heroics deny his side victory. The Bristol City goalkeeper had an afternoon to remember, despite the slippery conditions, and made his best save on 86 minutes to secure his team a point. There looked only one outcome when Ipswich substitute Pablo Counago latched onto the rebound after Grant Leadbitter's shot from outside the box had rebounded off a post. But Counago delayed his finish and Gerken somehow recovered from diving to his left to spring forward and rob the Ipswich player with his boot. "I'm hugely frustrated because we had a lot of good chances to win the game and that was the best," Keane said.
Sporting Life
City keeper Dean Gerken, still smarting from last week's rollicking from boss Gary Johnson for his gaffes, turned in a dazzler. Gerken pulled off a succession of spectacular saves - none better than the crucial late one from sub Pablo Counago when the Spaniard seemed a cert to score. There was special praise from Johnson for the Colchester summer signing, only sure of his place because No 1 keeper Adriano Basso wants to leave. Johnson said: "Dean didn't make any mistakes and he kept us in the game." But the Bristol manager knew that out-of-touch striker Danny Haynes could so easily have been the Ashton Gate idol.

It could easily have been a personal triumph for City striker Danny Haynes as twice he hit the post and was then back to clear off the line in a frantic late goalmouth melee. But in the end the Ashton Gate hero was keeper Dean Gerken who pulled off a string of agile saves - when last week's criticism from manager Gary Johnson was still ringing in his ears. 'He didn't make any mistakes today and thoroughly earned his corn. He kept us in it,' said Johnson.

Swansea City were forced to settle for a point as Aaron McLean's late leveller cancelled out a superb Lee Trundle brace in a pulsating finale at London Road. Trundle, who is desperately trying to earn a permanent deal before his three-month loan from Bristol City expires in January, came on with his team trailing 1-0 and just 20 minutes on the clock. But, after a brilliant run and finish levelled the scores, his clinical shot on the turn in the 92nd minute looked to have completed a remarkable turnaround. But, in a frantic end to what had been a relatively uninspiring game, McLean was to have the last laugh.
