SATURDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Sat 05 Dec 2009

A furious row has erupted between Bristol City and Cardiff City over ticket prices for next month's FA Cup third-round showdown at Ashton Gate. City officials intended making significant price cuts in order to reward their supporters and guarantee a bumper crowd for the January 2 derby tie. But they met opposition from Cardiff, whose directors wanted to charge full Coca-Cola Championship admission prices. And when the clubs failed to agree a price structure after days of wrangling, the Football Association was forced to step in and settle the disagreement. Members of the FA competitions committee came up with a compromise, but it means City are now unable to offer additional concessions to season-card holders and members.

Gary Johnson is ready to make peace with Roy Keane at Ashton Gate today. Bristol City's boss upset his fiery Ipswich Town counterpart in the summer by revealing that Keane was about to sign Lee Martin from Manchester United when his own bid for the young winger fell through. A furious Keane told Johnson to "mind his own business" and concentrate on his own transfer dealings. But the Bristol manager insists there will be no hard feelings when their teams clash in the Championship this afternoon.

Bristol City right-back Bradley Orr is back in contention to face Ipswich this weekend after over a month on the sidelines. However, Cole Skuse is expected to start ahead of Orr, who has recently recovered from an Achilles injury.

Danny Haynes plans to hurt the one he loves when his Bristol City side take on Ipswich Town in a Championship fixture at Ashton Gate tomorrow (kick-off 3pm). The flying 21-year-old 'Canary Crusher' left the Blues in the summer to join the Robins, but he has nothing but praise for everyone at Portman Road. Haynes, who had a pleasing habit of scoring for Town in East Anglian derbies against Norwich City, said today: "In my five years at Ipswich they taught me the game. I have nothing but good memories having came through the youth team and been given my chance. The reason I moved was to play first team football, and I like to think I made a lot of good friends at Ipswich."
