WEDNESDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Wed 02 Dec 2009

Bristol City defender Bradley Orr is a step closer to making a Championship comeback after playing his first game in more than a month. Orr, injured in City's 3-2 win at Barnsley on October 24, has since been forced to sit out games against Sheffield Wednesday, Nottingham Forest, West Bromwich Albion and Sheffield United. But the Achilles problem which caused his calf muscle to tighten has now cleared up and the right-back returned to full-time training last week. And Orr could be available for selection for Saturday's home game against Roy Keane's Ipswich Town after coming through an hour-long match at the club's Failand training ground. Orr was scheduled to play for City's reserve team in a Gloucestershire Challenge Trophy quarter-final tie at Cinderford, only for the game to be postponed because of a waterlogged pitch at the Southern League club's Causeway Stadium.

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson says he is fed up of conceding late goals and is determined to bring the habit to an end. The Robins managed to claw their way back from 2-0 down against Sheffield United on Saturday, only for Darius Henderson to win the game for the Blades in the last seconds of the game. It was the fourth time this season that Bristol City had conceded a late goal, with similar events taking place against Preston, Peterborough and Scunthorpe. Johnson says he is concerned at the number of late goals his side are conceding and insists he will bring a stop to it before it hampers the Robins play-off campaign further. "It's happened to us in four or five games now and this latest one was an absolute killer," said Johnson.

Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown has paid tribute to former Bristol Rovers chairman Ron Craig who has passed away. Mr Craig had been suffering from a short term illness and died yesterday after being on the board at Bristol Rovers for more than 20 years. He spent 16 months as chairman from April 2007 and enjoyed promotion to League One at the same time as Bristol City secured elevation to the Championship. "Although a member of our local rivals, Ron Craig was always a great ambassador and servant to football in Bristol," said Lansdown in a statement released on the club's website. "Although we knew Ron had been ill for some time, it's always a shock when someone passes away."

Ipswich Town manager Roy Keane is on red alert to bring in a loan goalkeeper before his team play Bristol City in the Championship at Ashton Gate on Saturday. Richard Wright yesterday underwent scans on the knee he damaged in the 2-1 victory at Cardiff City on Sunday and the indications are that he will be out of action for a number of weeks. If the 32-year-old's injury is not as serious as feared, Keane will select between Wright and deputy Arran Lee-Barrett for the trip to Bristol.
