SUNDAY'S PRESS TALK

Posted on: Sun 29 Nov 2009

Darius Henderson grabbed a stunning hat-trick to end City's long unbeaten home record in the Coca-Cola Championship. The big striker netted twice in the space of three minutes midway through the first half and then scored a dramatic injury-time winner as the Blades became the first side to take three points at Ashton Gate since Burnley won 2-1 on December 20 last year. Undone by slipshod defending, City suffered their second successive defeat and lost further ground on those teams in the play-off positions.

A hat-trick from Darius Henderson gave Sheffield United their first win at Ashton Gate since 1971 and shattered Bristol City's 11-month unbeaten home record. Henderson netted the winner in the sixth minute of time added on after Alvaro Saborio looked to have snatched a point for Bristol City with a goal just a minute earlier. But Henderson latched on to a pass from Stephen Quinn and added to his two first-half strikes with a cool finish across Dean Gerken.

Star man Darius Henderson completed a stunning hat-trick for United with the last kick of the game. Blades boss Kevin Blackwell said: "This was an afternoon of remarkable mixed emotions. When Bristol drew level in injury time, it was like a dagger in the heart after they had pulled back from a two-goal deficit." The City players were given a roasting. Manager Gary Johnson fumed: "I was very angry at the individual mistakes. Too often this season we have given away goals in the closing minutes. I must take a long look at this and take action if necessary."

Home boss Gary Johnson looked at the ground in despair as United star Darius Henderson completed a hat-trick deep in injury-time shortly after City had recovered from a two-goal deficit. It was almost the last kick of the game as Henderson guided his shot into the net. City, losing at home in the league for the first time this season, were jolted by a nightmare three minutes in the first half when Henderson twice netted, the first effort being a beefy drive through a crowed area, the second a result of his swift reactions.
Mail on Sunday

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell was delighted with his side's last-gasp win at Bristol City, while Gary Johnson was left perplexed. Darius Henderson pounced deep into added time at the end of the game to score the winner and the third goal of his hat-trick after City had fought back from 2-0 down. Alvaro Saborio appeared to have earned City a point until with almost the last kick of the game Henderson completed his first-ever hat-trick to give the visitors all three points. "I don't want too many finishes like that - unless they all go my way," said Blackwell.
