WEEKEND PRESS TALK
Bristol City target David Clarkson is spending the weekend mulling over a move to Ashton Gate after Motherwell and the Robins confirmed they had agreed an undisclosed fee. Bristol City are firm favourites for his signature as Cardiff City have declined to pursue their interest in the Scotland international striker. Clarkson was given one day off from training with the Steelmen to fly down to Bristol on Thursday to have talks with Robins boss Gary Johnson. But he has now returned to Motherwell, who are preparing for a Europa League qualifier with Llanelli next week. Clarkson and his agent Mark Donaghy are hoping for a four-year deal from City as part of a move that will cost chairman Steve Lansdown £600,000 up front. The fee could rise to £800,000 depending on the number of appearances made, and goals scored, by Clarkson, and depending on whether he helps City achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Move over Skinner and Baddiel, there is a new World Cup theme tune on the horizon - and it is penned by a Bristolian. The World Cup has inspired Bristol-born-and-bred Paul Hobbs, 60, to write his own song for the Three Lions entitled "England for Glory". And the 60-year-old from Knowle, who was awarded the Lord Mayor's medal last year for services to local charities, views Bristol's bid to become a host city for the 2018 World Cup as the perfect opportunity for the West Country to unite behind the national team. Mr Hobbs' record has won approval from the Premier League, been played on TalkSport and was commended by Bristol City chairman Stephen Lansdown. Mr Lansdown took part in this year's Bath to Bristol charity walk for Meningitis UK organised by Mr Hobbs, which has raised £20,000, and is happy to help him try to realise his dream of having a World Cup hit.
