Representatives from Bristol City football club and Bristol City Council will rub shoulders with David Beckham and Prime Minister Gordon Brown today as the Football Association kicks off England's bid for the 2018 or 2022 tournament. Bristol is one of 15 cities which will be put forward at Wembley Stadium today as a potential venue, subject to the development of Bristol City's new ground in Ashton Vale.

Bristol City hope their new stadium will be able to host World Cup matches if England's bid to stage the 2018 or 2022 competition is successful. England launch their bid on Monday and Bristol hope to get the chance to host four or five games at the tournament.

Leicester chairman Milan Mandaric has confirmed the Foxes are interested in signing Bristol City goalkeeper Chris Weale. The 27-year-old is set to be out of contract at Ashton Gate and so far has not been offered a new deal by the Robins.

There have been no developments on the contract situation regarding striker Dele Adebola. Bristol City have tabled a 12-month deal, but Adebola, 34, is holding out for an extra year. Coca-Cola Championship rivals QPR, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest are believed to be leading the race to prise him away from Ashton Gate.

Bristol City have added Wycombe Wanderers to their list of pre-season friendlies. Ties between the two sides have been strengthened this season with the loan of Bristol City striker John Akinde. The 19-year-old, signed for £140,000 from Ebbsfleet United last September, scored seven goals in 11 appearances for Wanderers who won promotion to League One with their third-place League Two finish.

Bristol City are set to swoop for Southampton goalkeeper Kelvin Davis because the relegated side can't offer him a new deal. The 32-year-old is out of contract at Southampton and, although the Saints want to keep him, they can't offer him a new deal until the club have a new owner in place.
