FRIDAY'S PRESS TALK
Bristol City are reported to have agreed a deal to sign Egypt international star Emad Meteb. Cairo club Al-Ahly are thought to have finally accepted a bid of £1.5 million for the 25-year-old striker, after weeks of negotiations with City. The Championship club refused to confirm or deny the reports, adhering to their policy of not commenting on transfers until completed. But Meteb's agent, Ahmed Rifai, has said Al-Ahly have struck a deal with City and that Meteb will fly to England as soon as he can obtain the necessary documentation. Rifai claimed: "Bristol will pay half the amount now and the rest in January 2009. Emad shall fly to London as soon as he acquires the necessary visa." His comments have yet to be corroborated by either club.

Meteb's agent claims Ahli have agreed to receive a £1.5m transfer fee from City in two instalments. But City manager Gary Johnson said: "If I was or wasn't interested I couldn't say. All the information on this player has come from other sources but, at the moment, I can't discuss any deal."

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has urged Robins supporters to be patient as the club goes about its transfer dealings. Johnson has so far added just one player to his squad this summer, signing Gavin Williams from Championship rivals Ipswich, while Nick Carle has left Ashton Gate to join Crystal Palace. Johnson insists he has irons in the fire as regards new arrivals, but insists he will not be going public with any details until the deals are done. "There is no news and when something happens I will be able to speak about it. These things don't happen overnight. There are always complications and dramas, with plenty of negotiations," Johnson said. "In most deals you think you are there but then somebody pushes it a bit further."
