Bristol City are set to sign flamboyant midfield star Gavin Williams from Championship rivals Ipswich Town. A fee has been arranged between the two clubs for the Wales international, who has already agreed personal terms. The deal is now subject to the 27-year-old former Yeovil Town and West Ham United schemer passing a medical in Bristol. City boss Gary Johnson sees Williams as the ideal replacement for Australian midfielder Nick Carle, who has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace this week.

Bristol City have been told raising their rejected £750,000 offer for Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson would be a waste of time. The Robins have failed with an opening bid for the 26-year-old who is also said to be interesting Norwich City.

Bristol City have been thwarted in their efforts to sign Egyptian Wael Gomaa after the player revealed his club Al Ahly are not prepared to sell. City are reported to have offered £150,000 for the player as well as making a bid for team-mate Emad Meteb.

Bristol City midfielder Nick Carle will have a Selhurst Park medical today with a view to completing his move from Ashton Gate tomorrow. Eagles boss Neil Warnock revealed this week that Palace's Championship rivals had accepted a bid for Carle's services - and the deal is a step closer today with the Australian midfielder due to arrive at Palace's Beckenham training ground to undergo a medical.
