Bristol City could find themselves facing the two strikers they have just released in the Championship next season. Darren Byfield was let go by the Robins less than a week after missing two chances in the Championship play-off final against Hull City last month. But the former City eight-goal top scorer is attracting interest from Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Cardiff City. And Enoch Showunmi could be on his way to Charlton Athletic after the end of his two-year deal at Ashton Gate. The Nigeria international last season had a spell on loan at Wednesday, who may move for him if they cannot get Byfield.

Swindon Town are believed to be closing in on a deal to bring Swansea City defender Kevin Amankwaah to the County Ground. Town boss Maurice Malpas has earmarked full-back as one of his high priority positions to fill and Amankwaah is expected to be the club's first summer signing. The Daily Press understands that the former Bristol City man has already held talks and personal terms have been agreed.

Swindon boss Maurice Malpas has revealed he has made enquiries about several Bristol City players, including winger Scott Murray. The 34-year-old is out of contract with this season's Championship play-off runners-up and, although Robins boss Gary Johnson has offered him a new deal to stay at Ashton Gate, Malpas has not given up hope of luring the veteran to the County Ground. "I have spoken to Bristol City about one or two of their players and Scott Murray is one of them," Malpas said. "He has been offered another year at Bristol though as far as I am aware, so that might end that.

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has revealed Chris Weale has agreed a new contract and will remain at Ashton Gate next season. The 26-year-old goalkeeper was set to be out of contract but will sign a one-year deal with the Championship play-off finalists. "He is willing to stay and fight for a first-team place with Adriano Basso," Johnson said. "If he is not playing regularly then there is always the option to allow him out on loan and he is happy with how everything looks."

Any speculation there might have been about former Yeovil Town keeper Chris Weale returning to Huish Park has been ruled out. Yeovil-born Weale, who played a leading role in the Glovers' amazing success story of recent times, has been at Bristol City for the past two seasons. But first-team opportunities at Ashton Gate have been rare and with the future surrounding Yeovil's present number one keeper Steve Mildenhall in the balance as he has yet to sign a new contract, there had been talk among fans about Glovers' boss Russell Slade trying to recruit Weale. But Weale and fellow City keeper Stephen Henderson have now agreed to stay at Ashton Gate, although they will remain understudies to Adriano Basso.
