IN SUPPORT OF CHARITY

Thanks to all the City fans who supported the fun fair in the Winterstoke Road Car Park last weekend.
Thanks to your efforts we have been able to raise over £2,600 for Help For Heroes. Special thanks must go to Steve Rawlings who provided his fair for free.
Meanwhile, cricketing legend Sir Ian Botham is doing another walk this year for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. The year 2010 marks the 25th anniversary of his first walk and also the 50th anniversary of the charity.
'Beefy' will be visiting Ashton Court Estate on Tuesday, April 13th along with members of the public who have also raised money for the cause. Please feel free to go along and add your support.
Competition for the big prize in our half-time 'Dink Up Thy Cider' contest is hotting up. There are currently three competitors who are tied for a place in the grand final against Swansea City on April 10th. We have two more female competitors lined up for the Newcastle game; Kelly Baber and Bethan Jones, who will be looking to join them, or even leapfrog past them. Remember, the overall winner will receive an X Box 360, courtesy of Currys on Winterstoke Road, while the runners up will all walk away with a fridge full of Blackthorn Cider.
Preparations are already in hand for next season's competition. We have a few ideas in mind, but it will definitely be open to under 18's.
Finally, I had a record response to last week's blog about swearing, and the five-year-old boy in the Williams Stand who was frightened away at half-time by the thoughtless actions of an adult supporter. I am glad to say that the vast majority of supporters were as appalled as I was that any adult could behave in such an irresponsible manner. Astonishingly, visiting the online forums, there were still some who felt that this behaviour was acceptable, and part and parcel of going to a football match. One person even suggested I had made the whole thing up, though why I would want to do that, I am not exactly sure.
Of course we are never going to prevent all bad language at football matches, nor would we want to. But it is clear that there are very many parents in particular who do not want their children subjected to continual swearing. All we are asking is that supporters exercise common sense and consideration for the rights of our younger fans to watch a game of football without being threatened or intimidated by a fellow supporter. So if you have to swear, have some thought for who might be within earshot.
