City's Ashton Gate Stadium will play host to a prestigious Under-21 international friendly fixture between England and Romania in August.

The match - to be played on Tuesday, August 21st, kick-off 7.45pm - will end more than a ten-year wait to attract the Under-21s back to Bristol.

Their last visit to City's stadium came in February 12th 1997 when Italy were defeated 1-0 by a Darren Eadie goal in front of 13,890.

The only other time the Under-21s have been at Ashton Gate was back in 1985 when England won 3-0 against Turkey.

Group chief executive Colin Sexstone told bcfc.co.uk: "We've been working very hard over the years to bring the Under-21s back to Ashton Gate and we're absolutely delighted to be hosting another fixture in August.

"The Under-21s did extremely well in the European Championships recently and were unlucky to go out on penalties. This is the ideal time to host the Under-21s, with the team firmly in the public eye at present."

The England side will be led by a new permanent manager for the first time at Ashton Gate, after Stuart Pearce's spell as caretaker boss ended with the side's cruel penalty shoot-out exit from the European Championships.

Neither ex-City stars Leroy Lita and Liam Rosenior will be eligible for the fixture, but the likes of Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor and Luke Moore, plus Premiership hot-shots Matt Derbyshire and James Vaughan will be available for the new manager to choose from.

James Milner, Tom Huddlestone, Nedum Onuoha, Steven Taylor and Mark Noble could also be in the squad.

Tickets for the match will go on sale tomorrow at 9am from the hotline number 0871 222 6666, or in person at Ashton Gate.

Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for concessions (under-16s/senior citizens).
