A six-foot-tall forward, Alvaro began his career at Deportivo Saprissa in his home country, where he spent five years between 2001 and 2006. He netted 95 goals in 151 games.
For Swiss top flight outfit Sion, the San Carlos-born forward bagged 36 goals in 87 appearances.
He is also a regular for the Costa Rica international team.
