Former Dutch youth international joined on a season-long loan in September 2009 from Ajax.
Began his footballing career at Feyenoord after being plucked from Ajax's youth system at the age of eighteen.
In 2006 he switched to Celtic, where he played 49 times, scoring once. He helped the Bhoys to the the Scottish Premier League title in 2006/07 and 2007/08, as well as lifting the Scottish Cup in 2007.
In August 2008 he rejoined Ajax on a three-year deal, under then coach Marco van Basten.
When Martin Jol took over at the Amsterdam Arena he agreed to let City loan in the midfielder for the 2009/10 campaign.
The midfielder had already shown what he could do in front of 11,000-plus City fans when Ajax ran out 4-0 pre-season winners at Ashton Gate.
The Dutch youngster received a standing ovation from home supporters for his performance that night.
