David Wetherall has been told he will remain in charge of Bradford City until the end of the season.
The experienced defender is currently caretaker player-manager at the Bantams and brings his charges to Ashton Gate tonight on the back of nine games without a win.
Saturday's 2-0 at local rivals Huddersfield had caused undercertainty in the Bradford camp about Wetherall's future - but today chairman Julian Rhodes declared: "It's David's job until at least the end of the season."
Wetherall said: "I'm obviously proud and privileged to be in this position. It's a challenge but I will continue to do what I think is best.
"It isn't ideal and I've been open about that all along. I would like to be concentrating solely on playing or the management side."
Wetherall is being assisted by Frank Barlow, formerly number two to Danny Wilson at Ashton Gate. Another former City face in the Bradford camp is defender Kelly Youga, who is on loan from Charlton Athletic.
Caretaker player-boss Wetherall added of tonight's game: "Bristol City's current form counts for nothing because no game is decided before kick-off.
"Nobody will give us a chance but maybe we can go down there and surprise people."
