REPORT: PAULTON 0-6 CITY XI

Posted on: Wed 08 Sep 2010

Danny Haynes made a goalscoring return to action for City XI in the 6-0 win at Paulton Rovers.

The forward bagged a first-half goal and played for an hour in Rob Cousins' testimonial match at Winterfield Road, in front of 540 supporters.

There were second-half strikes from Jimmy Keohane, Marlon Jackson (two), Louis Carey and David Clarkson to give a one-sided look the result.

In his first appearance of the season due to ongoing hamstring and groin injuries, the returning Haynes missed his kick in front of goal early on as Jamal Campbell-Ryce crossed along the six-yard box, and Clarkson was unlucky to see his long-range shot deflected inches wide.

As the half wore on Gavin Williams cut in from the left flank and bent a shot against the post.

But on 39 minutes the deadlock was finally broken. Christian Ribeiro's deep cross was prodded back across goal by Campbell-Ryce and Haynes was on hand to convert.

Callum Hart, the former City trainee, almost beat Dean Gerken from 30 yards on the stroke of half-time with a swerving low shot but the stopper managed to save with his feet.

Paulton made a host of changes at the break but it was City's only half-time replacement, Keohane - on for Williams - who struck five minutes after the interval.

As the ball ran loose in the box, Irish midfielder Keohane struck an unstoppable shot low into the net for 2-0.

Haynes, along with fellow first-teamer Campbell-Ryce, made way just after the hour for Patrick Hoban and Jackson.

And Jackson added a third goal on 72 minutes, latching on to Lee Johnson's pass and firing into the far, bottom corner.

In the space of three minutes skipper Carey headed in from ten yards, Clarkson slotted home on the angle and Jackson rounded the keeper to make it 6-0.

Cousins made way with ten minutes left to a standing ovation - it was his night after all.

City XI: Gerken; Ribeiro, Edwards, Carey, Ball; Campbell-Ryce (Hoban 62), G.Williams (Keohane 46), Johnson, Lennox; Clarkson, Haynes (Jackson 62).
