City Under-18s suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Liverpool in the FA Premier Academy League.
John Clayton's side have endured a tough start to the campaign, having faced Newcastle last week - narrowly losing 2-1 - and now Premier League giants Liverpool.
After a slow opening, Bobby Medjedoub's 20th minute inswinging cross was headed just wide by Scott Wilson from only a couple of yards out.
And within seconds Liverpool broke up the other end, winning a corner kick from which they opened the scoring.
After half-time City substitute Giani Kapika twice went close to levelling from close range.
But Liverpool put the game to bed with two goals in the last 20 minutes; the first a stunning volley and the second a defensive mix-up.
Academy boss John Clayton said: "It wasn't a bad performance from the lads but obviously the result is disappointing."
City Under-18s: Carey; Muggeridge (Kapika 30), Holloway, Douglas, Ball; Lindsay, Bryan, Medjedoub; Andrews, Wilson (Palmer 75), Reid (Wells 60).
