City have completed the signing of Ipswich Town striker Jon Stead for an undisclosed fee.

The 27-year-old arrives on a three-year contract having agreed personal terms and passed a medical at Ashton Gate today.

Ironically Huddersfield-born Jon will be looking to make his City debut this weekend against his former club Ipswich.

Jon began his career with hometown club Huddersfield, where his impressive form - 24 goals in 76 appearances - prompted Blackburn Rovers to splash out £1.25m for his services.

His form also earned him 11 caps at Under-21 level for England, for whom he scored once.

A year later Sunderland paid £1.8m to take Jon to the Stadium of Light. A loan spell at Derby County followed, before moving to Sheffield United for £750,000.

He spent one-and-a-half seasons at Bramall Lane before moving to Ipswich Town, on loan initially before striking a permanent move.

Coventry took Jon on loan at the end of last season, but it is with Championship rivals City where the next stage of his career begins.

The deal is subject to Football League clearance.
