Steve Wigley has been appointed as Keith Millen's assistant manager.
The 48-year-old has agreed to take up the role with immediate effect on a one-year rolling contract. He also works with England Under-21s and their boss Stuart Pearce, a position he will continue to assist with.
Born in Ashton-under-Lyne, Steve has a vast array of experience both as a player, coach and manager.
During his 14-year playing career the tricky winger racked up more than 340 appearances for a combination of Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Birmingham City, Portsmouth and Exeter City.
He moved into management with Aldershot Town in 1995 and took them to three top ten finishes in successive campaigns.
He moved back to Nottingham Forest to work in their Academy and also as an assistant coach. It was during his time at the City Ground that his first association with England Under-21s began, as he was asked to help out by then boss David Platt.

U21 role: New City assistant Steve Wigley with Stuart Pearce |
Stuart Gray lured Steve to Southampton in 2001 as Academy director. When Gordon Strachan left the helm at St Mary's, Steve stepped in as caretaker manager before the appointment of Paul Sturrock. The Scotsman's reign didn't last long, however, and Steve was then made manager of the then Premier League until December.
After departing Southampton he teamed up with Stuart Pearce at Manchester City as his assistant manager/first team coach. He then rejoined England Under-21s and took up a role to help out Pearce - now Under-21 boss - and assumed responsibility for the development of 17-21-year-olds.
More recently Steve has helped out as backroom staff for Gary Megson and Iain Dowie at Bolton Wanderers and Hull City respectively.
