Nicky Maynard will undergo surgery on his injured knee tomorrow (Wednesday).
And it's still unclear how long last season's 21-goal top scorer could be sidelined for.
The former Crewe striker saw a specialist today where he discovered the bad news, and surgery will commence tomorrow afternoon.
Manager Steve Coppell told bcfc.co.uk: "Nicky will need surgery which is a massive disappointment. The injury hasn't progressed as we had hoped and the surgeon has seen something on the scan that needs fixing.
"Until the surgeon gets inside his knee we won't know how bad it is and how long he will be out for, we'll have to wait and see. Hopefully it'll be weeks rather than longer, but we don't know for sure."
The striker pulled up just a week after returning for pre-season training with a knee problem and has yet to play a minute of football in 2010/11.
