Steve Coppell insists the Carling Cup is just as important as the npower Championship to him.
The City boss takes his charges to tackle League Two side Southend United in a first round Carling Cup match tonight (7.45pm).
And previewing the game on Player, Steve insisted: "I have no priorities. It's the next game and we want to win.
"I don't have one protocol for a Carling Cup game and another for a league match. This is the second game of our season after a bad first match.
"We want to try and win this match tonight and progress."
Paul Sturrock's Southend drew their opening day game 1-1 at home to Stockport County thanks to a last-gasp goal.
Steve said: "We've had reports about how they play. Make no mistake, we're a scalp and we're going to their place.
"It could be a big pay day for Southend if they win through to round two and they will want to beat us badly.
"We've got to match their mentality and then let our ability and skill shine through."
David James could sit out the match with Dean Gerken expected to return between the sticks.
Damion Stewart is suspended, leaving City with a hole in the centre of their defence. Cole Skuse is one option to deputise.
