DEAN POISED FOR RETURN

Posted on: Mon 09 Aug 2010

Dean Gerken could get a chance in goal at Southend United, manager Steve Coppell has revealed.

David James was between the sticks for the season opener against Millwall, where he was given no chance with the three goals fired past him.

Now heading into the Carling Cup first round tie at Roots Hall, City's manager admits he might take this opportunity to give another keeper a run out.

"I'm still undecided," the manager told Player, "but it might be a chance to give Dean Gerken a game."

He continued: "I can't chop and change anyway, circumstances dictate that. It's a case of having a squad for 17 or 18 fit players at the moment and selecting from them."

Damion Stewart will miss the match as he serves a one-match suspension for his dismissal on Saturday versus Millwall.

Sam Vokes has been added to the injury list, but Louis Carey and Christian Ribeiro have now resumed training at Failand.
