Lewin Nyatanga is to be sidelined for at least six weeks after scans revealed knee ligament damage.

The Wales international was stretchered off in the 2-0 pre-season win over Blackpool after a crunching challenge.

He went for a scan this week and the results have shown ligament damage, but no cartilage problems.

Head physio Nick Dawes told bcfc.co.uk: "Our worst fears of a cartilage injury have been put to bed, but there is a ligament tear and that means he will be out for six-to-eight weeks."

It follows a wretched pre-season of injury troubles for City's squad, including fellow defenders Louis Carey, Nicky Hunt, Christian Ribeiro and James Wilson.
