Tom Williams has been offered a six-month contract at Ashton Gate.

And City hope the left-back will accept the offer shortly, ahead of the big season kick-off against Millwall at Ashton Gate on Saturday.

The former QPR and Peterborough defender has been involved in all five of City's pre-season friendlies played in England, impressing the club's hierarchy enough to earn a contract offer.

Assistant manager Keith Millen confirmed to bcfc.co.uk: "We've made the offer to Tom and it's likely he will come on board."

He continued: "We know what he can do and he's an established Championship player. It does give us competition on the left hand side."

City are still waiting for clearance for Irish pair Patrick Hoban and Jimmy Keohane. Both 19, Patrick played for Mervue and Jimmy for Wexford Youths. The two youngsters are midfielders, with Patrick being the more attacking of the two.

Keith added: "We're looking to get them on board as soon as possible and it's just a case of sorting out all the paperwork - which there is lots of - and getting it done."
