City fans can watch World Cup action on the big screen at the Hyundai Fan Park Bristol in Queen Square.
A huge 30msq screen is showing a series of live matches across the 2010 tournament, including all England's matches, starting with today's opening game: South Africa v Mexico, 3pm.
Bristol City Council has created the fan park in Queen Square in partnership with sponsors, Hyundai, and local event specialists Richmond Event Management (REM).
Bristol is just one of two cities in the UK to host Hyundai's screen and is one of just 15 cities throughout Europe to be selected by Hyundai for their World Cup promotion.
Thousands of spectators and supporters are expected to flood to Queen Square to soak up the atmosphere and capture the World Cup action as it happens.
To minimise disruption to local businesses and residents, the Hyundai Fan Park Bristol will show some mid-afternoon and most evening matches. In total, 39 live matches will be screened. A full programme is available from bristol.gov.uk/worldcup
Entrance to Queen Square is free, anyone coming along will receive a wristband so numbers can be monitored. Spectators are advised that no alcohol or glass bottles can be brought into the fan park. Stalls selling a range of refreshments will be on site, including alcohol, soft drinks and food.
Councillor Simon Cook, Bristol's cabinet member for culture, sport and capital projects, says: "The Hyundai Fan Park is great. Great for football and great for families, We are delighted to host this fan park as it gives us the opportunity to show Bristol at its very best.
"Queen Square is a special park, right in the heart of the city and it makes the perfect venue for an outdoor event - especially when it brings world cup football to thousands of spectators. The city council has worked with a number of partners, including the police, local businesses, REM and Hyundai to make this all possible. Thanks must go to Hyundai.
"I would recommened anyone wanting to get some real world cup atmosphere to make their way to Queen Square and join in the the world's most exciting sporting event."
The fan park will also play host to SoccerJam - an activities and skills event for children and young people. SoccerJam is set to take place on Saturday July 10.
