ABSOLUTELY GUTTED - GARY

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

Gary Johnson admitted the last-gasp 3-2 defeat at Plymouth Argyle left everyone in the City camp "gutted".

And the City boss also conceded that two more wins to stave off the bottom clubs is his main target at present.

A Nicky Maynard brace helped City recover from a first-half 2-0 deficit at Home Park, but after being reduced to ten men through Jamal Campbell-Ryce's dismissal, Plymouth snatched all three points in stoppage time through Carl Fletcher's goal.

Speaking on Player, Gary said: "We're very disappointed with the first half performance when we never turned up.

"We gave it a right go in the second half and worked hard enough, competed a lot better and got our two goals. Nicky's scored two great goals and it's nice to see him scoring again.

"At that point I thought we would go on to win it and we saw a couple of penalty appeals turned down.

"We still need at least two wins at this time, there's no getting away from that of course. We need to get them as quickly as possible."

"I could say something but I'd get heavily fined. You know the person I'm talking about - not in our team and not in their team. I just thought every foul, 50-50 went to them on the night.

"The killer goal right at the end leaves everyone gutted in our camp.

"Jamal dismissal was also disappointing. The first booking was for dissent and the second saw the ball bobble off the turf and he caught the lad late. When you're on a caution you have to be careful but it was frustrating."

On City's current situation, currently seven points ahead of the drop zone, the manager said: "We still need at least two wins at this time, there's no getting away from that of course. We need to get them as quickly as possible.

"With the first half spirit we'll get dragged into [the relegation battle] and if we show the second half spirit we'll keep out of it."

Jamie McAllister limped off near the end with a slight injury and will be assessed ahead of Saturday's televised game with Newcastle United.
