Bristol City is saddened to learn of the death of popular former centre-half Jack Connor on Tuesday. He was 75.
The defender played 408 times for the club between 1960 and 1971, before becoming player-coach under Alan Dicks. He is one of only 13 players in the club's history to have made more than 400 appearances for Bristol City.
Jack - full name John Ferguson - hailed from Maryport, Cumbria and began his career with Huddersfield Town, for whom he played in the old First Division under Bill Shankly.
He moved to Ashton Gate in October 1960 in a swap deal which saw Scottish striker John McCann move to Huddersfield.
An authoritative centre-half, who was especially good in the air, he became a fans favourite at Ashton Gate, playing a key role in the club's promotion to the old Second Division in 1965.
He later had a spell on the coaching staff at Everton before settling in Formby, near Liverpool.
Everyone associated with the club would like to pass on their sincere condolences to his wife Chris, daughter Jacqui and all his family and friends at this sad time.
