Brian Wilson was delighted with his return to action in the 3-1 County Cup win over Bristol Rovers last night.
The utility player turned out for an hour in the derby victory, which was actually longer than planned. But he came through unscathed and is now targeting a first team return.
"I was only due to play a half but went on early when James Wilson got injured," Brian told bcfc.co.uk.
"It might help me in the long run. I'm still a bit rusty, as is to be expected, but it was great to get an hour under my belt.
"Realistically I probably still need another four or five reserve matches before I can return for the first team.
"However, this match has been one step along the road to full recovery. I've been out for a while because of a succession of injuries and now I hope I've put that all behind me.
"I've been training properly for two weeks and now I've got my first match action. I just need to build from here on in."
Brian has been troubled by shin splints before suffering a fractured left shin injury in a reserve match at Bournemouth in October.
