City beat their Bristol Rovers counterparts by three goals to one at the Memorial Stadium to reach the Gloucestershire Senior Challenge Cup final.

After a low-key opening period, the game burst into life when Joe Edwards opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark with a superb solo run and acute-angled finish.

With 90 seconds City were two up, Danny Ball rising in the box to head in Jamie McAllister's inswinging corner.

Brian Wilson made his return to playing action earlier than planned when he replaced injured namesake James in between the two goals.

Rovers' best chance of the first half came just before the interval when Neikell Plummer's 25-yard shot rattled the crossbar.

Jamie McAllister made way at half-time as planned, with Henry Muggeridge coming on.

The game was ended as a contest four minutes after the restart when Lennox's super run and cross was nodded in with ease by John Akinde.

Rovers' night was summed up on 66 minutes when Eliot Richards missed an open goal with a diving header from two yards.

They did, however, manage a consolation goal in the 89th minute when substitute Joe White beat Tom Bradley from ten yards with a powerful finish.

City will now meet Mangotsfield United or Gloucester City in the final. Their semi-final will be played at the end of March.

City Reserves: Bradley; Edwards, Ball (Brunt 57), J.Wilson (B.Wilson 30), McAllister (Muggerirdge 46); Artus, Lennox, Kington, Hennessy; Akinde, Livings. Subs not used: Carey (gk).
