Marvin Elliott is ruled out with a knee injury and will see a specialist in a bid to cure the problem which will sideline him for two weeks or more.
Ex-Ipswich forward Danny Haynes starts in the same three-pronged attack - including Chris Iwelumo and David Clarkson - that saw City down promotion favourites West Brom six days ago at Ashton Gate.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce returns to the City squad on the bench, and Gavin Williams is also a replacement against his former club. Patrick Agyemang is ruled out with a thigh strain.
