DANNY READY FOR PORTMAN RETURN

Posted on: Wed 24 Feb 2010

Danny Haynes is hoping for a positive reception when he returns to Ipswich Town for the first time on Saturday.

The forward pulled out arguably his best display in a City shirt to help the team defeat West Brom 2-1 in front of the BBC cameras on Sunday.

And now the 22-year-old is looking for a similar show-stopping display when he heads back to Portman Road this weekend to face the team he left in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Player, Danny said: "It will be nice returning to Ipswich Town and it's important we take what we did against West Brom and repeat it at Portman Road.

"It's been a while since the dressing room has been buzzing like it has been since Sunday's win.

"I hope I'll get a decent reception (at Ipswich) and I never showed them any hard feelings [when I left]. They brought me through as a youngster and I've plenty of people to thank for my time there.

"It was the right time to move on in the summer and now I'm looking forward to going back there in a Bristol City shirt."

On his dazzling display against the Baggies, where he gave Baggies left-back Joe Mattock a nightmare afternoon, Danny grinned: "I was pleased with my performance.

"It's been a while since the dressing room has been buzzing like it has been since Sunday's win."

"We hadn't won in a while and it was a big game against one of the top three teams in the division.

"As soon as I beat their left-back (Mattock) in the opening minutes I just thought, right I'm going to get at him all game. I was getting joy with the ball at my feet and they didn't know what to do about it.

"I had chances to score in the first half and I was a little disappointed that I didn't find the net, but the achievement of winning the game was all that mattered really.

"It was a real shift for me on Sunday and that's why I was on the floor ready to be replaced ten minutes from the end. Looking back I don't know if I was 100 per cent match fit after the illness and I lost a bit of weight from that.

"However, I was really happy with the way I performed in the game and now hopefully I and the team can take that forward into the Ipswich game."
