MATCH PREVIEW: LEICESTER HOME

Posted on: Tue 16 Feb 2010

OPPOSITION

Leicester have continued their impressive start to life back in the Coca-Cola Championship into the New Year and currently find themselves in the play-off picture, looking upwards. With Matty Fryatt injured currently, many tipped Leicester to struggle to find the net - but Paul Gallagher responded in perfect fashion by netting a hat-trick in Leicester's stunning 5-1 win over Scunthorpe on Saturday. Martyn Waghorn is also a poacher to watch. Chris Weale, who left City in the summer, will be looking to impress against his former employers.

MANAGER

Nigel Pearson has plenty of managerial experience at the age of 46. His playing career saw him stay for lengthy spells with just three clubs, Shrewsbury, Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough. But in management Pearson has taken charge of six teams - including many caretaker spells. West Brom, Newcastle United (twice) and England Under-21s have all had Pearson in caretaker charge during the 2000s. Pearson famously kept Carlisle in the Football League back in 1988/99 when goalkeeper Jimmy Glass bagged a last-gasp goal against Plymouth Argyle. In more recent times Pearson was at the helm of Southampton two seasons ago and kept them up on the last day before handing over the reins to Jan Poortvliet (who didn't last long). In June 2008 he was appointed manager of Leicester and guided them to the League One championship in their first season.
