Gary Johnson thanked the supporters and admitted after the 1-1 draw with Leicester City: "The supporters could do no more."
The City boss watched his side go one-up in stoppage time through David Clarkson's strike, only for Lloyd Dyer to snatch a leveller within 72 seconds.
He applauded all four sides of the stadium after the heartbreaking ending to the game and praised them for their backing.
Gary told Player: "I feel the same as the players, as all the fans that came along tonight. I thought the whole club responded today and that's a good base to go forwards.
"We asked for that response and the supporters couldn't do anymore than they did tonight. I didn't think they deserved that late goal.
"That's the emotion of football and we saw 99 per cent of supporters clap the players off the field.
"We had chances and end product but weren't able to put the ball in the back of the net. We were a few seconds away from securing all three points.
"It was a great strike from Clarky. We were much better in the second half; reading things better, moving better and we looked a decent side. We all feel down.

"What can we do? We put that late goal down with all the rest. It's a gutter but we can only reflect on it and say we deserved three points."
He added: "Of course we're all disappointed, from the tea lady to the chairman.
"It's been the first time in a while since I've come in and praised the players. Some of them were so down they couldn't even accept the praise at the time. I had to say to them: 'I can't keep coming in and hitting you with a stick - sometimes I've got to give you a sweet."
"We've got a big game on Sunday against West Brom and hopefully the club will show again it's back in business."
Cole Skuse has been taken to hospital with a suspected broken arm, added the manager.
