Gary Johnson admitted his side were lacking confidence after the 2-0 loss at Sheffield United.
Goals from Henri Camara and Darius Henderson condemned City to defeat at Bramall Lane - leaving the team without a win in five.
Speaking after the match, Gary told Player: "You can see there's a lack of confidence out there at the moment and it's something we need to turn around as soon as possible.
"Generally that comes when you score the first goal but you've got to look like scoring the first goal. We had quietened the crowd and felt if we stayed in the game after half-time we'd have a chance.
"I thought the first half was pretty even without us creating many chances. Our quality in the final third wasn't there still.
"As our confidence is fragile, the goal straight after half-time kills us and it was always going to be difficult to come back from that.
"It was a schoolboy error for the first goal; we weren't close enough to him (Camara) and then we just stood still claiming for offside.
"We've got two big home games against Leicester and West Brom coming this week."

"Darius Henderson has become a thorn in our side and that's why he's played at the highest level. You get those players in the Championship.
"The pressure builds and builds on all of us. We've been poor away from home. We've tried all sorts of things, all sorts of shapes since the first game.
"You put players out there and offer them the chance to impress and if, on the day, that doesn't happen then you have to look again. You'd love to pick the same team every week and you do when they're winning.
"We've got two big home games against Leicester and West Brom coming this week. Both are matches where we will have to be concentrating 100 per cent and play well. Maybe that what we need right now at home."
Chris Iwelumo made his debut in the match, having signed for the club on an emergency 28-day loan on Friday.
Gary added: "I thought Chris did very well in the first half. We didn't really get any quality into him in the second half or people around him like he needs.
"If we do get our confidence then he's right for us. We have to be more clinical and clever."
