Bristol City Football Club tonight took another major step towards their new stadium at Ashton Vale.
Bristol City Council's Planning Committee agreed with their officers' report to approve the changes made by the club since the November meeting, where a "minded to approve" verdict was received.
An eight-versus-one majority verdict was reached, but as the application is on green belt land it will now be referred to the secretary of state to consider. He will decide whether to "call in" the application for an inquiry.
City chief executive Colin Sexstone said: "It's a good result. A few extra things have been added in and we'll have to look at that closely. The positive side is we've got through this big hurdle. There are a few more to go, but this is good news.
"I'm hopeful there is no inquiry and we'll be doing everything possible to ensure this doesn't delay by 12 months; an inquiry would do that."
Revisions agreed include the removal of the Southlands housing, new pedestrain access route, with a footbridge, plus other supporting information regarding sustainable construction, lighting and footpath diversions.
One amendment added tonight means the Zone 3 hotel and food outlets will need to have a BREEAM rating of "very good", falling in line with the proposals for the stadium iself. Also the stadium has been set a target of producing 10 per cent of its energy on site.
