POSITIVE TALKS WITH NORTH SOMERSET

Posted on: Tue 09 Feb 2010

Consideration of Bristol City Football Club's planning application to North Somerset Council to build an access road into the proposed new stadium site at Ashton Vale has been deferred.

North Somerset Council's Planning and Regulatory Committee was due to consider the application at a meeting next Wednesday (February 17). This will now take place at a later date, to be confirmed.

A Bristol City spokesman said: "Bristol City Football Club has had some very constructive discussions with North Somerset officers over the proposed new stadium at Ashton Vale, especially with regard to the club's transport plan.

"However, there are some areas where the club still needs to enhance and clarify matters for North Somerset members, especially regarding on-site parking and Residents' Parking Zones.

"Therefore the club has asked that consideration of the stadium proposal is deferred from the scheduled Planning and Regulatory Committee on February 17 to a future date.

"The club will continue to work closely with North Somerset Council to resolve councillors' and residents' concerns over this very important application."

Leader of the Council, Cllr Nigel Ashton: "The area committee raised a number of concerns and I am pleased that the football club is taking those issues seriously - these were around parking and the general impact that the scheme could have on local residents.

"I'm also pleased that our officers have maintained a dialogue with the club to look at these issues."

This deferral will not delay the club's plans to complete construction of the new stadium for the 2012/13 season.
