CYCLE TO CITY IN A CYCLING CITY
Bristol City Football Club have opened up a free cycle-parking service for supporters attending home matches.
From tomorrow's home game with Sheffield United, the club will be offering free, secure and weatherproof parking for cyclists in the Old Hirerite building. This can accessed via Ashton Road and is completely undercover.
The club's fans liaison officer David Lloyd told bcfc.co.uk: "The idea first came about following an e-mail from a supporter.
"They were concerned about riding a bike to come to games at Ashton Gate because there was no adequate parking for cyclists available.
"We've worked on this and are delighted to say we'll have a proper parking facility for bikes available for every home matchday - and for free - in the Hirerite building.
"We hope as many of our supporters as possible use this new facility as it not only eases traffic, but also helps the environment.
"It's clearly something we hope will become a big success and also something we are keen to include at the new stadium in a few years' time."
In June last year, Bristol was named the first "cycling city" in a £100m government scheme.
For fans not cycling to games, the club has also secured 2,000 extra parking spaces in and around the surrounding areas of Ashton Gate. Check the club's website bcfc.co.uk, or call the Ashton Gate ticket office on 0871 222 6666 for more information.
