Alvaro Saborio's Costa Rica have it all to do if they are to qualify for next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa after losing 1-0 to Uruguay overnight.

The Ticos are currently involved in a two-legged play-off with Uruguay for a final spot at South Africa 2010.

And Diego Alfredo Lugano's first half strike in the San Jose-based first leg has given Uruguay the upper hand going into Wednesday's return fixture in Montevideo.

City loanee Alvaro played the whole game and managed a shot on target in the second half for a below-par Costa Rica side.
