CLUB ANNOUNCE LATEST FIGURES
City's annual accounts are now available online, showing a loss of £6,565,072 on the year ended May 31st 2009.
This is compared to a loss of £1,997,779 for the previous financial year.
A club statement reads:-
"The Companies Act 2006 outlined a number of changes affecting companies from 2007 onwards and notice of these changes were announced to shareholders at our 2007 and 2008 AGMs.
"For the first time we are making our accounts available to view online and these have now been approved by the Board for the year ending May 31st 2009.
"The 2008/09 season was one of consolidation for us in the Championship and the fact that we challenged for a play-off position again, eventually finishing tenth, was a creditable performance and one to build on for the future.
"The financial outcome of our second year in the Championship was not so rewarding. In summary, turnover for the regular season held firm, mainly due to the advance sale of season tickets, although turnover as a whole for the year was affected by the club not reaching the play-offs and has fallen by five per cent to £11.7m.
"There was also a significant increase in player trading and wages which, to a certain extent, is inevitable if we are to compete in the Championship and have aspirations of getting into the Premier League.
"Coupled with this we have also embarked upon the development of a new stadium at Ashton Vale and further associated costs, mainly professional fees at this stage, have been incurred totalling £1.71m.
"Another expense during this financial year is the development of our training facilities at Failand, which has already proved to be a great benefit to the first team squad and Academy.
"The Group is setting down firm foundations to establish a top-class football club with stadium facilities to match. The above mentioned expenditure is reflected in an increased loss for the year of £6.56m and the need for further investment into the club by the Board."
The club will be holding a Supporters Meeting in the Dolman Exhibition Hall at Ashton Gate on Monday, November 23rd at 7pm. This meeting will be open to all fans on a first-come, first-served basis (900 limit on numbers due to room layout).
Chairman Steve Lansdown will make a short presentation, before opening up the floor for a question-and-answer session alongside manager Gary Johnson and chief executive Colin Sexstone.
Note: Shareholders who requested hard copies of the Accounts last year will receive them by post (timing subject to mail strikes). All other shareholders will receive a postcard prompting them to view the Accounts online. All shareholders who requested the Accounts by e-mail should have them today.
