ASHTON GATE PLANNING SUBMITTED
The outline planning application for the future of Ashton Gate stadium has been submitted to Bristol City Council.
The application sets out plans for the redevelopment of the stadium site to provide a new retail store and petrol filling station, together with landscaping and a car park. The submission follows a public consultation process which began in June 2009 and involved exhibitions and focus groups with local residents and stakeholders.
The Ashton Gate site plays a crucial role in securing the Club's future plans and its redevelopment is essential to funding the proposed new stadium at Ashton Vale. The Club has therefore decided that working with Tesco to put forward a foodstore development would provide the necessary financial input, together with further economic and community benefits for the area.
Colin Sexstone, chief executive of Bristol City Football Club, said: "Our aim for Ashton Gate is to achieve the maximum value for the site while boosting the economic wellbeing of South Bristol.
"Together, Ashton Gate and Ashton Vale will form one of the most exciting developments seen in Bristol for many years and will enable the city to bid to become a host city for the 2018 World Cup.
"The proposal will also give the region a huge boost and would represent an investment of £120m, creating hundreds of new jobs and forming major foundations for the regeneration of South Bristol.
"We are committed to involving local people and are very grateful to everyone who has taken part in the consultation process, as the feedback received has been instrumental in helping to shape plans for the site."
Members of the public wishing to comment on the planning application will be able to do so online soon at bristol.gov.uk.
Copies of the application will also be available at Bristol City Council's planning offices, while a hard-copy of the application will be available for public viewing at Ashton Gate Stadium.
A decision on the application is expected in November 2009.
