GARY READY FOR PALACE BATTLE

Posted on: Fri 14 Aug 2009

Gary Johnson is ready to renew old rivalries with Neil Warnock's Crystal Palace tomorrow (3pm).

The City manager has enjoyed six battles with Palace since the club's return to the Coca-Cola Championship.

Four league matches have thrown up two City wins and two Palace victories; whilst in the play-off semi-finals of 2007/08 City were winners 4-2 on aggregate.

Speaking ahead of the latest encounter, Gary told Player: "Neil Warnock and rivalries seem to go together but I get on well with him.

"Luckily we have vociferous fans who can create a really intimidating environment - and you've got to use any home advantage possible.

"Neil enjoys that competition and is generally a different animal on the touchline to the one I enjoy a cup of tea with after the game.

"Most games against Crystal Palace over the years have been big games, including the play-off semi-finals.

"There's always a lot at stake and both teams are always very committed."

"The support we've enjoyed to date at Preston and Brentford has been tremendous, and I'm sure that will continue."

With a Carling Cup second round tie with Carlisle now on the schedule, City's next five matches include four home encounters.

Gary added: "I know it's difficult for fans with the finances associated with following their team, but hopefully they can come along cheer us on in all these games.

"The support we've enjoyed to date at Preston and Brentford has been tremendous, and I'm sure that will continue."

Danny Haynes is the only certain absentee as he serves a one-match suspension for his sending-off at Brentford.

All six of City's international players are available again.
