WATCH CITY'S NEW RECRUITS TONIGHT

Posted on: Wed 22 Jul 2009

Paul Hartley, Danny Haynes, Lewin Nyatanga, David Clarkson and Dean Gerkin are all set for their first Ashton Gate outings as City players tonight.

The quintet are all pencilled in to play some part in this evening's glamorous pre-season friendly against Ajax, the four-time European champions. And for supporters it will be the first time watching Hartley, Haynes and Nyatanga in action.

Tickets are still available from 0871 222 6666 or from the stadium, and can also be purchased on the night. Kick-off is 7.45pm.

"Tonight is a highly prestigious game for us here at Ashton Gate and it represents a good test for our players," manager Gary Johnson told bcfc.co.uk.

"The one thing teams such as Ajax do well is retain possession of the ball, and if we give it away we may never get it back!

"Our challenge tonight is to retain possession well ourselves and give a formidable side like Ajax a problem. It's certainly nice to get a home game in so early during pre-season, and I'm sure there will be a good attendance and atmosphere tonight."

Trialists Grigos Papazacharias and Alexei Eremenko are also likely to play against the Dutch giants.

This evening's match also represents a launch night for Bristol's bid to become a World Cup Host City in 2018.
