Gary Johnson says Chris Weale's exit to Leicester City is best for all parties.

Out of contract, the goalkeeper today opted to sign a pre-contract agreement with the League One champions.

And Gary revealed to bcfc.co.uk: "Chris had already informed us he would be looking to move on in the summer.

"He felt his first team opportunities were limited here, with the form of (Adriano) Basso, and he needed to go somewhere to get games.

"Chris was never really able to show the fans here what he was about due to the injuries. He came here with a cruciate knee which lasted 12 months, then he had problems with his back, and more recently he's broken his wrist and thumb.

"For that reason this move is the best for all parties."

City's manager also says this is a big opportunity for Stephen Henderson to step up.

The former Aston Villa keeper has agreed to sign a one-year extension, and Gary said: "Here's a big opportunity for Stephen.

"He's 21 now, he's not a youngster anymore and this is his chance to challenge for the number one spot. He's a very good keeper and he'll relish this chance."

Usually Gary likes to have three goalkeepers in his squad, and he admitted: "I'm looking at what's available but there's no immediate rush.

"The goalkeeping position is probably the easiest to fix with a loan signing in the event of injury and I have five or six names in mind."
