City will play Wycombe Wanderers in a home friendly at Ashton Gate on Saturday, August 1st, (3pm kick-off).

Peter Taylor's side won promotion from League Two last season in third place and boast two former City favourites in their line-up: Ashton Gate Academy products Tommy Doherty (pictured, who was named in the PFA League Two Select XI for 2008/09) and Chairboys player-of-the-year Craig Woodman.

The links between the two clubs were further strengthened by John Akinde's loan spell at Adams Park at the tail end of last season, when the young forward netted seven goals in 11 league games.

City boss Gary Johnson says: "It is the right game for us to play seven days before the start of what will be a very competitive season.

"We wanted a typically English-type game which was competitive but would also allow us to work on our own shape.

"The two clubs have good links. It will be the return to Ashton Gate of Tommy Doherty and Craig Woodman and our own striker John Akinde has done well there this season.

"I know [Wycombe] are viewing it as a big game and should bring a few supporters. I have spoken to Peter Taylor and we are both looking forward to the match."

It is the second home friendly to be confirmed for the 2009/10 season - City play host to Premier League newcomers Wolves at Ashton Gate seven days before the Wycombe game.
