A proposed loan move involving Chris Weale joining Rotherham United has been halted due to transfer regulations.

The goalkeeper was poised to join the South Yorkshire club on an emergency loan to cover for Andy Warrington, who is ruled out for six weeks with a shoulder injury.

However, City would not be allowed to recall Chris unless both Adriano Basso and Stephen Henderson were injured.

Manager Gary Johnson told bcfc.co.uk: "I spoke to (Rotherham manager) Mark Robins and was happy to let Chris go there, and it would have been a good move for everyone involved.

"However, the transfer regulations say we wouldn't be able to recall Chris if either Adriano Basso or Stephen Henderson suffered an injury, leaving us short of a keeper.

"The only way we would have been able to recall Chris is if both Adriano and Stephen were injured, which still leaves us with only Chris once recalled.

"It's a sad situation and stops people from earning a living. We can't afford to be left short and that's why it won't be happening."

He added: "It would have been a good move for Chris to get some games and Rotherham are doing really well. They're only in the bottom half because of their points deduction."

Chris has started five times this season for City, with two further substitute appearances. His last match was away at Wolves on September 27th.
